Celebrities With Scalp Micropigmentation

The average man loses between 50 and 100 hairs per day, every day. The reason all men are not bald is that those lost hairs are replaced by new hairs. At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work. But for a significant percentage of men, that’s not what happens. Instead, by the time they reach 35 no less than 40% of men experience noticeable hair loss. In 60-year-old men, the percentage suffering visible hair loss rises to 65%. In this post we’re going to reveal numerous celebrities with scalp micropigmentation, the hottest thing in baldness management since, well, ever.

The Scourge of Baldness: Causes

Before we get into discussing celebrities with scalp micropigmentation let’s take a minute or two and look at some of the causes of baldness. The truth is a man’s hair can fall out for any number of reasons including:

Male Pattern Baldness – Let’s start with the most common cause of baldness in men: male pattern baldness. There are 3 factors that influence whether a man will experience pattern baldness (scientific term “androgenetic alopecia“): hormone issues, advancing age and genetics. Of the 3, genetics is far and away the most common culprit. (And let’s put a popular myth to rest right now: there is ZERO scientific evidence that pattern baldness skips a generation.)

Illness or Stress – Hair loss caused by illness or stress is not terribly common, but it does happen. The technical term for this condition is “telogen effluvium” and symptoms include noticing excessive amounts of hair on your pillow or hairbrush. This type of hair loss is typically uneven, although completely bald patches are uncommon.

Self-Inflicted Hair Loss – Pulling on the hair to relieve nervous tension, braiding the hair into tight knots, applying bleach or other forms of hair colour, or exposing hair to high heat from a hairdryer can all cause hair to fall out and not grow back. The scientific name for this condition is “traumatic alopecia”.

Infection of the Scalp – If the scalp becomes infected with certain types of fungi it can cause patchy hair loss. This condition (scientific term “tinea capitis”), causes hairs to actually break off at scalp level and the scalp itself to become dry and flaky.

Drug Side Effects – Certain medications are also known to cause hair loss. Lithium, Warfarin, Heparin, beta-blockers and more have been known to cause hair to fall out. And chemotherapy drugs such as doxorubicin are well known for causing sudden and total hair loss.

Now that we have a better idea of what causes baldness, let’s take a close look at scalp micropigmentation and some of the celebrities that have embraced it.

What Is Scalp Micropigmentation?

The search for a cure for baldness has occupied researchers and medical professionals for thousands of years. Whoever does finally provide a foolproof cure is likely to receive a Nobel Prize along with the undying gratitude of billions of men in perpetuity. As of this writing, however, there is no cure. Only coping mechanisms offer varying degrees of effectiveness. One such method that has caught the attention of numerous celebrities is scalp micropigmentation.

Scalp micropigmentation is a safe and effective procedure that involves tattooing coloured dots onto the scalp to mimic the appearance of hair follicles. Scalp micropigmentation is most often administered to the hairline but can be applied anywhere on the scalp, including the top of the head and the crown. Tiny dots are tattooed into the surface using the client’s natural hair colour creating the illusion of a full head of hair.

Micropigmentation does not yield permanent, unchanging results. Over the course of about 8 years, the colour of the pigments will fade. With proper aftercare and treatment, however, it is possible to get more than that amount of time out of the initial procedure.

Scalp micropigmentation is not cheap, but few things of value ever are. The good news is that it is typically much less expensive than hair transplants. Now let’s look at some celebrities who have opted for this process.

Celebrities with Scalp Micropigmentation

When you live your life in the spotlight it’s crucial that you always look your best. As baldness progresses this becomes increasingly difficult. If you are U2 guitarist The Edge your solution is to wear a hat of some kind everywhere you go. For most celebrities, however, that just won’t work. What many of them have discovered instead is the process of scalp micropigmentation.

The following are just some of the celebrities who have opted for this simple and effective process to turn back the tide on hair loss.

Quinton Fortune

Quinton Fortune, he of ManU fame, had always sported a buzz cut. Even so, it became obvious back in 2009 that the footballer’s hairline was in full retreat. After consulting numerous specialists he was advised by stylist to the stars Daniel Johnson to undergo scalp micropigmentation. His embrace of the technique and the outstanding results emboldened countless men to look into the process in order to rescue their appearance from the scourge of hair loss.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson had a well-documented affinity for plastic surgery, which many would argue he often took too far. But nose and chin jobs were not the only cosmetic procedures he underwent. Following his untimely death in 2009 an autopsy revealed that the King of Pop suffered from severely thinning hair. Doctors discovered that in response to his hair loss he wore a wig that had been tightly wound into his remaining hair to keep it in place, and that he engaged in extensive scalp micropigmentation which extended from his hairline across most of his scalp.

Alex Beresford

It was no secret that Alex Beresford, ITV weatherman and “Dancing on Ice” star, suffered from male pattern baldness. His response to the problem was to buzz cut his hair close to his scalp, presenting a nearly bald appearance. But a funny thing happened recently. Viewers and celebrity watchers noticed that he seemed to suddenly have a well-defined hairline and was cutting a more dashing and confident profile. Although he has not discussed the matter publicly, a quick search of before and after photos indicates that the Alex Beresford hair treatment responsible for the change was, without a doubt, scalp micropigmentation.

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx (born Eric Marlon Bishop) is an Academy Award-winning American actor who has been one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars for the past 20 years. About 10 years ago the star’s hairline began to recede with further thinning occurring on the top and crown. Tired of what he was seeing in the mirror Foxx opted for scalp micropigmentation that re-established his hairline. In recent years it is rumoured that he also engaged in hair transplants to augment the effects of the micropigmentation. Whatever the case, that Jamie Foxx hair is looking much better these days.

Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel (born Mark Sinclair) is one of the biggest box office stars in the world today. He rose to prominence as the star of the Fast and Furious franchise that began in 2001 and continues to this day with total box office receipts in excess of $6.6 billion (£5 billion). Diesel has long been known for his deep baritone voice and for being bald. That is, he was known for being bald until he underwent scalp micropigmentation recently. Now he’s still known for his ultra-close haircut, but not for being bald.

Andros Townsend

For several years watching former Crystal Palace and now Everton winger Andros Townsend’s hair recede from his forehead was something of a pastime. Eventually, the England National team member took to shaving his head completely. Then, in 2016 he learned about scalp micropigmentation and underwent the procedure. The results were a fantastic success and had many of those who had followed his receding hairline over the years doing a double-take.

Nicky Jam

Nicky Jam (born Nick Rivera Caminero) is a world-famous Reggaeton artist, rapper and actor. Best known for his hits including “X” and “En la Cama” he has also engaged in high profile collaborations with other Latin artists including Pitbull and Enrique Iglesias. Like a lot of men, Nicky began to experience thinning hair and a receding hairline in his 30s and by 2016 he had had enough. To stem the tide of pattern baldness he opted for scalp micropigmentation and was so enamoured with the results that he discussed his experience openly in interviews and posted videos on social media on the topic.
